What is paternity testing?

Paternity testing is experimental procedure and mathematical analysis aimed to determine if two individuals have biological father/children relationship.

 

Prior to the invention of DNA ID technology (1985), paternity testing was primarily blood typing of involved parties. These traditional testing is still performed in many Chinese hospitals (one of reasons why hospitals still require blood samples when performing paternity testing). The blood typing, however, has many drawbacks, among which is low precision. Due to relatively high frequency of each of blood types, even the most advanced blood typing of Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) can only exclude about 95 percent of falsely accused fathers.

 

Ningren employs the most advanced DNA ID technology for paternity testing. We have sophisticated genetic diagnostic equipment: Genetic Analyzer 3130 and 3100 from Applied Biosytems of United States. The equipment makes our experimental testing and data processing highly automatic and largely reduces human biases and errors. We use 16 polymorphic genes for parentage analysis and human genetic identification, including international standard 13 CODIS loci (FBI Combined DNA Index), 2 extra independent loci, and a sex-determing locus. By simultaneously measuring all of these genes, our parentage testing results are highly accurate (99.99% - 99.9999% when parentage not excluded) and universally accepted. They can be repeated by any labs in the world.
